Prayer

Prayer is how we communicate with our Heavenly Father. Let’s talk about skillful and Godly prayer, also known as Effective Prayer (James 5:16) for a moment:

Paul states in 1 Corinthians 9:26 (NASB)
26 Therefore I run in such a way, as not without aim; I box in such a way, as not beating the air;

2 Corinthians 10:3-4 (NASB)
 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh,
 for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses.

Did you miss the key described to us in Verse 26? The principle point is this: Therefore I run this, not with uncertainty…In other words, Paul is saying when he runs, he doesn’t just run around (as in running in circles) without a clue as to where he’s going, or trying to accomplish – without a definite goal in mind. There is clear direction; which he received from the Heavenly Father through the leading and guiding of the Holy Spirit.

Paul continues to say, Thus, I fight, not as someone who beats the air; meaning he’s not swinging his arms around wildly – hoping he hits something. He knows his weapons, and his target (2 Corinthians 10: 3-4); and knows how to use his weapons correctly, to get the desired result.

Jesus ALWAYS  had these same kind of results in prayer; accurate, powerful, and always answered by the Father.

John 11:41-42 (NASB)
41 So they removed the stone. Then Jesus raised His eyes, and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me.
42 I knew that You always hear Me; but because of the people standing around I said it, so that they may believe that You sent Me.”

Accurate and powerful answers from our Heavenly Father, are available for us too; as Jesus said in…

John 14:12 (NASB)
12  “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father.

Jesus always received an answer to prayer; be it in the form of guidance of what to say, what to do, where to go, manifestations of the Holy Spirit, how to get wherever the Holy Spirit wanted Him to go, etc. We too can have those same results in prayer and our walk with Christ.
