Christ expected that His disciples would mature, grow up, and develop in Him.

Christ expected their growth and development because He sowed the seed necessary to produce their growth; His Word and His presence. The kind of growth He was looking for was: their relationship to deepen by revelation knowledge, their understanding of Him-His nature and character-to increase, and their grasp of what He wanted them to be and to accomplish, to become firmly planted in their hearts and minds. Lastly, He expected them to produce fruit. What kinds of fruit? #1: Obedience to His direction. #2: Increased confidence in His ability and plan. #3: Be an open door for God to bring His plan and His will to pass in the earth through His people-which includes drawing souls to Himself. (John 14:12; John 5:30; Hebrews 11:6; 1 Corinthians 3:7; Matthew 6:9-13)

We have His Word and His presence today. How? We have the Holy Spirit and we have the Bible!

We have His Word and His presence today. How? We have the Holy Spirit and we have the Bible! (1 John 4:13) It is OUR individual responsibility, as Believers, to press on until we attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ. We are being conformed to the image of Christ. (John 14:7-21; Ephesians 4:13; Romans 12:2)

The written Word of God is for our spiritual growth and developement.  Start there. As you apply yourself to studying God’s Word; invite the Holy Spirit into your study time. Open your heart to Him, and ask Him to speak to you and teach you about Himself. He will! ( Hebrews 11:6)
